The Calm in the Glare

I made this studio portrait of a friend in Izhevsk, Russia. The whole image is built on contrast — colored light raking across both her face and the crumpled foil behind her, and her smooth skin set against the hard, wrinkled metal. I gelled the lights warm and magenta so the foil would catch and throw color rather than sit flat.
