Upper Bubbs Creek, Kings Canyon National Park, California
An unnamed creek in the meadows past Forester — after a morning of snow, rock, and iron-colored water, the sudden green felt almost loud. A sixth of a second at f/7.1 with the little tripod splayed at its full fifteen inches, which for once was exactly the right height: this is a composition that lives at boot level. The Sierra rations its color up high; you shoot it when it appears.
