
Mesquite Flat Sand Dunes, Death Valley National Park, California
Sand holds the last of the warm light for a while after the sky above it has gone cold. That mismatch is the picture — a gradient running the full height of the frame, yellow at your feet, then blue, then pink out over the far basin. I composed around the transition itself rather than around any particular dune, which is why nothing here is the subject.
