Facing the Wall

Trail Camp, Mount Whitney, California

Last light at Trail Camp, moon already up, and one of my companions just stood there a long time reading the wall we would climb in the dark. I did not ask him to pose. ISO 10,000, handheld, almost as much open as this old lens goes — grain everywhere, and I kept every bit of it. Some exposures you take because the moment is leaving and the tripod is forty feet away in the tent.
